Commercial polished concrete floors

Large floors cost less a m²: from €55 to €60 a m² for a standard finish over 100 m². Polished floors are in offices, shops and student accommodation across Ireland, and an R10 slip rating needs a slip resistant coating.

Free, no obligation. One local polished concrete contractor prices it, not five.

Where it's used

Offices, shops, showrooms, cafés, gyms, student blocks and warehouses use it for the same reasons: the slab is already there, and there's nothing on top to wear out.

The case for a business

  • Upkeep. No coating to replace: sweep, mop, and reseal every few years.
  • Use straight away. A polished floor can be used straight after polishing.
  • Slip. As slip resistant as polished marble, granite or porcelain; R10 takes a slip resistant coating. Ask for the rating in writing for wet areas and entrances.
  • Scale. Larger areas are cheaper a m².

What to send the contractor

  • The floor area and a plan, and whether the building is open while the work is done.
  • The slab's age and what's on it now.
  • The finish and slip rating you need, and the areas that get wet.
  • Working hours, dust and noise limits, and access for the machines.

A photo that works

  • Daylight, lights on if it's dull.
  • From the doorway, so most of the floor is in the shot.
  • A building site is fine: the slab, the plaster, the lot.
  • Hold the phone level, not pointed at your feet.
